Chapters 18-21 The End

The last few chapters were very intence and kinda sad. Now, Leader is in Forest looking for Kira, Matty, and Frolic and he keeps trying to see beyond to see if he can locate theme. Meanewhile, the children and Frolic are in the middle of Forest in a huge clearing, very close to death. Both Matty and Kira try to keep eachother alive and they both are trying with ll their might to make it to Village alive. When Leader makes it to them, he sees them so close to dying he immediatly tells matty to use his power.

Do you think matty should have used his power?

I think using his power took all of the remaining energy laft in his body and killed him. I felt really bad for him, especially when i read the quote "In the distance, the sound of keening began." Right there i knew Matty was dead.

Accept for the end, i really enjoyed this book. It was really interesting and really cought my attention. Also it allowed me to make a really detailed picture in my head of what was going on and that, to me, means its a good book.

Chapters 15-17

These few chapters sorta creep me out. While Kira and Matty enter Forest along with Frolic, many strange things begin to happen. Acid sap causes Matty's arms to get all infected, Kiras feet are cut from vines tryng to grab her and branches and bushes try to grab them and kill them before they get to Village. Every once in a while they stop for a rest and kira stitches to see where Leader is and whats going on with Forest. while Kira uses her power, matty makes fun of his by saying "I can fix a frog".
Ever since they entered the forest Leader has been watching out for them and he has been very concerned. Therefore, he entered Forest on his own in search for them. While on his trip, he also gets almost entangled by vines and branches but manages to get away.

Do you think Leader will find Matty, Kira and Frolic and be able to help them get to Village safely?

Chapter 14

This chapter was one of my favorites in the whole book. During this chapter Matty and Kira both tried to show eachother their powers. Matty tried to show Kira his power by cutting his leg and healing it with his curing power. Kira showed Matty her power by stitching with many colored threads. While Kira looks beyond she find out that the forest is getting really thick really fast and they should go as soon as possible. After Kira stops, Matty asks her if she saw anyone with blue eyes and Kira tells him "No... but i felt him".

What do you think Kira meant when she said she "felt" the leader?

Chapters 11-13

Before Matty's long message to Kira, he goes to see Leader and gets told not to go. Leader tells him "I think you had better not go.....there may be danger in Forest this time"(Lowry 95). Matty is upset with Leader and very much wants to go. Leader, on the other hand, tell him that he can see beyond and can see that Forest is getting thicker. Why do you feel that Forest is growing thicker?
Matty goes into Forest anyways promising to be careful and brings Frolic along with him. To me, Matty is very brave because traveling throught Forest is nothing that i'd want to do. However, when Matty arrives at Kira's house, he sees that her leg is twisted and she is holding a stick to support her. He remembers his power of helpin people and immediatly says "I can fix you"(Lowry 117").

Do you think Kira will allow Matty to fix her? Why or why not? Do you think Matty's power will work?

chapters 8-10

These few chapters start out with Matty getting his new puppy from Jean. He tries to decide what to name it however he cant think of one so he goes to Leader and gets the name Frolic. One day, when him and Seer went to a village meeting they left Frolic at home, otherwise they take him everywhere. On the other hand, the town meeting was a debate on weather or not to close the town and they voted yes. I really disagree because i feel that they have all the supplies and thing they need and if the promblem is smarts, thats what teachers are for.

Do you think they should have closed Village? Why or why not?

Due to the closing of Village Seer wanted to send Matty on a long trip to deliver a message. Seer's daughter, Kira, lives in Matty's old village and once Seer's Village is closed they will never be anle to meet again. Seer sais to Matty "There are only three weeks left, Matty. After the border closes it will be to late. She wont be allowed to come. You must bring her before that happens"(90 Lowry). Therefore, Matty has to travel throught Forest to tell her to come and live with them.

Do you think Matty will make it and be able to bring Kira to Village to live with them?

Chapters 6-7

In these two chapters, all the newcomers are coming to Village and are ready for Trade Mart. During Trade Mart Matty is simply talking to Mentor, the teacher, and all of the sudden, when Trademaster said "Trade mart begins...whos first", Mentor is gone. He flew swiftly up onto the stage like it was a marathon run. When Trade mart is over matty is very confused. No one is carrying anything and most people are acting and looking different. For example Mentor's birthmark had faded away.
When Matty got home from the trade mart Seer was darting him with all sorts of questions, such as "what happened to Mentor when he got on the stage?". Mtty could tell something strage had occured and he is going to try to fingure it out. What do you think happened at Trade Mart and what do you think Matty will do?

Chapters 4-5

In chapters 4-6 many interesting things happen. During these few chapters, Matty walks over to Jean's house to visit a puppy that will be his soon. When he gets there he sees that its him and its mother are ill and pretty close to death. Matty leans over to pet the puppy when something happens. The puppy is alright! A little later when Matty enters his clearing in Forest he sees a limp from with its leg hanging on my a few small pieces of flesh. Matty can tell that the frog is on his way to death so maty picks him up and begins to dig a hole to bury him in but " then, after a moment, while Matty knelt, still mystified by what was hapening, the frogs body twitched"(Lowry 42). He realises something strange.

What do you think is going on whenever he touches a sick or injured creature?

Chapter 3

Chapter 3 is a really interesting part of the book. It explains how badly Matty wants a Gaming System. One night when Matty was on his way to Forest, his friend Ramon tells him about his new item and Matty is hooked. He keeps asking Seer about it and keeps trying to convince him to get it. The thing is, to get a new item you need to trade and Seer has never traded in his life. I feel that Seer is nervous that he might loose something special. What do you think?
Matty is very upset that Seer isnt allowing him to get the new Gaming System. He does everything he can to try and make him change his mind about it. Therefore, he now is trying to come up with a plan on how to go and trade for it himself. Why do you think that Matty is willing to trade anything for a Gaming System? What is so special about it?

Chapters 1-2

So far, I think Messenger is a really good book. Its about a boy named Matty who lives and supports a blind man named Seer. Seer loves to cook and he teaches Matty to prepare amazing meals. After dinner one day Matty starts to head for Forest, Matty loves to go into Forest and likes to spend alot of time there however, Forest is very dangerous and entangles anyone who may disrupt it. One night when Matty is about to leave Forest he hears something called keening. That very night, the Gatherer enters Forest to collect berries for his family and he get entangled and killed and people keen on the streets.

Why do you think Forest acts like this?
